Kite surfing: Ynyslas - estuary Wind Direction: E Wind Stength: 20-25 Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Wow ! A wonderful 4 hours on the water. Ynyslas is such an incredible
place. At 7am it was absolutely dead calm in Llanafan. Refreshed the
weather station web page as I walked past the laptop (becoming a habit
these days - I think I need help!) and it was showing 20kts E. Couldn't
believe it and checked the time and date to make sure !! In Aber and Bow St
not a leaf was moving - but sure enough opened the car door at about 8am at
the estuary to be greeted with steady 20mph wind coming down the valley.
It stayed all morning even though the forecast never showed more than
10-12. Al was already out windsurfing and making some decent pace.
Expecting the wind to die I inflated my 12m kite to find a small tear in it
(arrgh). Didnt want to risk it, but fate was on my side and the wind was
building. Quickly up with the 9m and what a session! As the tide fell the
mirror smooth speed channel emerged and I had some really, really fast
runs. Just thinking what a good hour or two I'd had when several other
kiters appeared on the beach so stayed out for another couple of hours.
Spent some time playing around trying to get the hang of jumping and got
some helpful advice too, managed to get a few feet off the water and land
it sometimes. Quite a few failures too of course. Its all in the timing -
which I havn't yet got nailed reliably. The other guys were of course
doing loads of high jumps...and making it look so easy :). Considering
this time last year I'd only done buggying and landboarding I'm very happy.
Today was at least 6 stars for me :)
